CGH Earth eyes expansion across India with focus on untapped destinations

CGH Earth, an Indian hospitality brand widely known for its sustainability focus, is looking to broaden its footprint beyond its traditional stronghold in southern India. The hospitality company is exploring new properties and destinations across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and the North-east.

Speaking to TTG India on the sidelines of its maiden roadshow organised by CGH Earth in New Delhi, Michael Dominic,  managing director of the company, said the group is targeting a yearly increase of at least 100 rooms as it scales its operations.

Dominic: our strength is to realise the potential of untapped destinations

“Our property in West Bengal is expected to open in the next two to three months,” he revealed. The property which is opening in the Himalayan part of the eastern Indian state is currently under renovation, and will reopen under CGH Earth’s leisure brand.

Dominic emphasised that CGH Earth will continue focusing on emerging destinations, particularly areas that have been under-penetrated; as an example, he cited plans to explore properties in the hills of Goa rather than the beaches. “Our strength is to realise the potential of untapped destinations,” he said.

CGH Earth currently operates three distinct brands including CGH Earth Leisure, CGH Earth Wellness and CGH Earth Saha. The Saha brand, Dominic explained, consists of smaller properties (fewer than 10 rooms), often old villas with owners who were not utilising them to their full potential.

“Immediately after the pandemic, we started the Saha brand which is really growing fast. In the last one and a half years, we have opened 10 Saha properties. Next year, we are hopeful that at least 10 or 15 properties under the brand will be operational,” said Dominic.

CGH Earth is also exploring international opportunities with markets like Sri Lanka and Africa under its radar. At present, the CGH Earth portfolio comprises of about 26 properties in the country.
