Goa’s travel mart to highlight sustainability and diversity

The department of tourism, government of Goa is organising the 4th edition of Goa International Travel Mart (GITM) 2024 from April 3 to 4 at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium. It is for the first time after 2019, that the state’s department of tourism is organising the travel trade event post pandemic induced hiatus.

Addressing reporters from the state capital, Panaji – Suneel Anchipaka, Director, department of tourism, government of Goa said, “One of the main objectives of hosting GITM this year is to position Goa as a destination which is not only captivating but sustainable too. We are going to showcase our  ‘regenerative tourism’ efforts wherein we are engaging with local communities for tourism activities.”

The travel trade event also aims to showcase diversity of tourism experiences available in Goa which is popular among tourists for its sun, sand and beaches. “It is our strategic approach to promote Goa’s culture and festivals. Hinterland tourism is another focus area for us,” added Anchipaka.

More than 250 national and international buyers including hosted ones are expected to attend the event besides 50 sellers. The event will have expert-led sessions, workshops, and panel discussions covering a wide range of topics from sustainable tourism practices to emerging market trends.

“In terms of hosted buyers, our emphasis has been on existing international markets like Europe both north and south and emerging ones including Oceania region, South East Asia and the US,” shared Anchipaka.

Besides happening physically, the event will also be hosted on a virtual platform between April 3 to 9.
