Australia’s marine transport provider makes exploring the Great Barrier Reef accessible

0

SeaLink Marine & Tourism’s Red Cat Adventures and Whitsunday Jetski Tours operations in Australia are enhancing accessibility for all guests, especially those with accessibility needs, on their tours.

This initiative underscores SeaLink’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring every traveller can enjoy exploring the Great Barrier Reef, without barriers.

Guests with accessibility needs get to jump on the back of a jet ski with a guide to explore the Great Barrier Reef

Red Cat Adventures operates snorkelling tours from Airlie Beach and Mackay, taking guests to explore the vibrant marine life of the Great Barrier Reef. The Wildcat vessel is now equipped with wheelchair-friendly features, including tie-down points, to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.

Whitsunday Jetski Tours operates two half-day tours daily from the Coral Sea Marina, South Village – the Airlie Adventure (1.5-hour jet ski tour) and the Two Island Safari (two-hour jet ski tour). Guests can drive their own jet ski out to view the Whitsunday Islands from the protection of the coastline, exploring Airlie’s bays, islands, and enjoying some turtle spotting.

Key enhancements to both services include the wheelchair-friendly Wildcat vessel, which features secure tie-down points and spacious areas; accessibility features, which are clearly provided to guests with disabilities so they can make informed decisions about their adventure; a dedicated accessibility page on the website that outlines the specific accommodation offered and provides guidance on how to make the most of available services; marked accessible tours so guests can easily find and select tours that meet their requirements; and training all staff so they can assist guests with varying needs.

In addition, SeaLink Whitsundays, Red Cat Adventures and Whitsundays Jetski Tours are all Ecotourism Australia’s Advanced ECO certified, reflecting their ongoing commitment to responsible tourism and the preservation of the Whitsundays.

Red Cat Adventures and Whitsunday Jetski Tours recently hosted five carers and 14 clients from the Endeavour Foundation on board Wildcat for a sightseeing trip around Airlie Beach – they also explored the Whitsunday waterways with Whitsunday Jetski Tours.

Red Cat Adventures’ owner Julie Telford said: “We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Our commitment to accessibility is reflected in the enhancements we’ve made to our vessel and the information we provide our guests.

“We are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where all guests can enjoy a holiday to beautiful Whitsundays, including snorkelling and jet ski adventures.”

Ras Al Khaimah rolls out free visas for Indian MICE groups, weddings

0

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has introduced complimentary visas for Indian MICE and wedding celebrations, which launches this month till March 2025.

Under the initiative, RAKTDA will provide free visas for Indian groups booking a minimum two-night stay in any of Ras Al Khaimah’s hotels. The offer is open to groups with at least 100 guests per night, with visa costs being covered by RAKTDA, offering groups an even greater incentive to stage their wedding or corporate event in Ras Al Khaimah and experience the emirate’s beauty while making use of its world-class facilities.

Wedding couples and MICE organisers can now plan their events and enjoy free visas at Ras Al Khaimah from now till March 2025

Nestled in the northernmost part of the UAE, Ras Al Khaimah features accommodation from beachfront resorts like Waldorf Astoria, Movenpick Resort Al Marjan Island and Intercontinental Ras Al Khaimah Resort and Spa to desert oases like Ritz Carlton Al Wadi Desert. Recently opened properties include Sofitel Al Hamra Beach Resort and the Anantara Mina Al Arab.

The Nature Emirate also boasts venues that provide locations for bespoke celebrations. With over 8,000 keys available, the emirate offers hotels and resorts with MICE facilities, sprawling grounds and public spaces for outdoor celebrations.

Al Hamra International Exhibition & Conference Centre is the only stand-alone and flagship venue by the beach. Boasting a capacity of 3,000 attendees and 4,500m² of flexible event space, it caters to a diverse array of gatherings.

Meanwhile, couples can hold their celebrations amid sites on the UNESCO’s tentative list of Global Heritage Sites – Al Jazeera Al Hamra and Dhayah Fort. For the more adventurous bride and groom, they can consider the Jebel Jais Viewing Deck, located 1,250 metres above sea level with vistas across the Hajar Mountains and Arabian Gulf.

India has proven key to Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism growth plans, with the country consistently ranking among its top five visitor source markets worldwide. There are direct flights from major Indian cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad with IndiGo to Ras Al Khaimah, and the emirate’s proximity to Dubai International Airport also ensures seamless connectivity.

In 2023, Ras Al Khaimah introduced new laws governing civil marriages and a streamlined wedding planner certification programme, making it easier for local and international planners to arrange wedding ceremonies on behalf of couples living outside the UAE. Certified planners can secure fast-tracked permits and arrange ceremonies at unique venues across Ras Al Khaimah, providing event organisers and wedding planners with information and assistance in planning their events.

Iyad Rasbey, vice president of destination tourism development at RAKTDA, said: “We are delighted to launch this incentive, which will enhance Ras Al Khaimah’s appeal as a premier destination for Indian MICE and wedding events. We saw a 23 per cent growth in MICE revenue and 103 per cent increase in wedding-related revenue in 2023 and are eager to build on this success.”

Sabre looks at AI integration to transform travel agency operations

0

Software and technology company Sabre is working on embedding AI technology into its range of products for online and offline travel agencies and raising awareness of AI benefits in the Asian marketplace through Sabre Space events.

Speaking to TTG India on the sidelines of the Sabre Space event in Delhi-NCR in India, Madhavan Kasthuri, head of global solution engineering, Sabre Travel Solutions, said the tech transformation undertaken by Sabre during the pandemic downtime had “opened up new possibilities for innovation, supported by a strong partnership with Google”.

Madhavan Kasthuri addressing participants at the recent Sabre Space event in Delhi-NCR

Sabre’s vision is to create a comprehensive, AI-powered marketplace for travel agencies. The AI platform, described as a complex, multi-layered entity, will be built in stages. Initial components, ready for the next 12 months, promise significant value to customers. Over the next two to three years, and beyond, the platform will evolve, continually enhancing its offerings.

This year is a pilot year for Sabre’s AI platform, with selective implementation among its closest customers globally. These pilots will span OTAs, TMCs, and brick-and-mortar travel agencies.

“The AI platform is not a single monolithic product but a modular one, allowing agency customers to pick and choose the components that best suit their needs. This flexibility is key, as many agency customers have already invested in their own technologies. Sabre aims to complement these technologies with AI, enhancing their relevance and addressing business growth opportunities,” said Kasthuri.

Sabre’s leadership underscored AI integration’s numerous benefits to travel agencies. For instance, Sabre’s Global Shopping product, set to launch this year, uses AI to identify the best points of sale for agencies to obtain fares and products, helping them offer competitive prices to their customers.

Another significant benefit comes from improved customer communication efficiencies. TMCs can rely on AI to automate email processing, with prepare responses and options conveyed to corporate travellers.

In India, Sabre has seen growing demand for its products, but intends to get stronger buy-ins. It is working on expanding its GDS presence in the market by integrating content from Indian LCCs on its platform. While the company claims that its hospitality technology market share in India stands at an impressive 95 per cent, it holds a lower double-digit market share in the Indian GDS space.

Samual Machado, managing director, India & South Asia, Sabre Travel Solutions, said: “There are a large number of offline travel agencies in India which, despite knowing the value of a technology, are perhaps unaware about how to move towards online set up or think technology is too costly. Sabre has embarked on an extensive engagement campaign in India. This includes regular meetings with travel agencies, media engagements, and hiring top-tier talent. Our approach is to educate and support these agencies rather than just pitch for business.”

PATA mid-year report forecasts strong IVA growth in 2024

0

PATA’s upcoming mid-year report for its Asia Pacific Visitor Forecast 2024-2026 has revealed strong gains in the region’s international visitor arrivals (IVA) for 2024, reinforcing its original forecast figures released earlier this year.

This update, to be released in early July, underpins the prior report’s prediction of strong annual growth in IVAs into and across Asia-Pacific, exceeding pre-pandemic 2019 levels for the first time in 2024 under the mild scenario, and by 2025 under the medium scenario. However, challenges persist as the severe scenario predicts arrivals in 2024 to remain 31% below 2019 levels, and 13% below the benchmark by 2026.

IVA numbers of Asia, the Americas, and the Pacific have been predicted to exceed 2019 levels in 2024, under the mild scenario

PATA has also published its 39 individual reports of the Asia Pacific Destination Forecasts 2024-2026 series, sponsored by Visa and featuring the latest insights and data from Euromonitor International and Visa.

While uneven recovery rates between each region and sub-region within Asia-Pacific exist, IVA numbers of Asia, the Americas, and the Pacific have all been predicted to exceed 2019 levels in 2024, under the mild scenario. The momentum is said to continue into 2025 and 2026, with IVA numbers across all three destination regions forecasted to surpass those of 2019.

As expected, the severe scenario forecasts are much weaker and while IVA numbers are still predicted to continue trending upwards to the 2019 level by the end of 2026, they do so at very much slower rates.

At the destination sub-region level, some very strong IVA annual growth rates are forecast for 2024 under the medium scenario, with eight of the 11 sub-regions foreseen to have annual growth rates above 10%, led by Micronesia, South America, and South-east Asia. For annual increases in absolute numbers of IVAs, the destination sub-regions of North-east Asia, South-east Asia, and North America lead the field.

The drivers of much of this expansion in IVA numbers between 2023 and 2024 are very much the North-east Asia source markets with China. Over the 2023 to 2026 period, North-east Asia still dominates, with the top five source markets by additional IVAs generated all coming from that sub-region. Specifically, seven source markets are forecast to add more than 111 million IVAs each to the Asia-Pacific count with the US being the sole source market outside North-east Asia in that ranked list.

Another way to recognise the power of North-east Asia as a generator of IVAs across Asia Pacific between 2023 and 2026 is to understand that of the 258.3 million additional IVAs predicted for Asia-Pacific over that period, 60% are forecast to be from North-east Asia source markets.

“The severe scenario forecasts remind us that while things are positive right now, with growth projections generally bullish, dangers still loom,” remarked PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid. “Geopolitical tensions, the effects of climate change and economic uncertainty prove to be sources of obstacles to Asia-Pacific tourism growth, highlighting the critical need for continuous efforts to create innovative solutions that could effectively combat such challenges.”

He stressed: “We must not, however, revert to prioritising arrival numbers alone when it comes to the recovery and growth of our industry. It is crucial that tourism industry stakeholders turn their focus on promoting responsible and sustainable methods of managing volume growth as a way to foster these positive trends, focusing on quality tourism experiences, environmental conservation, and community engagement.”
